Brig. Gen(Retd). Professor Dr. Anjuman Ara Begum

Brig. Gen. (Retd.) Professor Dr. Anjuman Ara Begum has been working in obstetrics and gynaecology for nearly three decades. Her career has included pregnancy care, women's reproductive health, infertility treatment, and advanced gynecological surgery. She completed her MBBS in 1988, followed by a Diploma in Obstetrics and Gynecology. Later she earned an MS in Obstetrics and Gynecology in India, finishing first in the university with distinction. She continued her training at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in New Delhi, where she completed a fellowship in Reproductive Medicine, Endocrinology, and Infertility. She also received advanced training in laparoscopic and hysteroscopic surgery. Those years of study gradually shaped the work she is known for today.

Infertility has become one of the main areas of her practice, including assisted reproductive treatment and test-tube baby procedures. She also performs laparoscopic and hysteroscopic operations for women with different gynecological conditions. Some couples visit after trying for years without success. Others are referred because earlier treatment did not bring the expected result. Every situation needs its own plan. During her career she also served in the Bangladesh Army Medical Service and spent years teaching postgraduate doctors before retiring from military service. Research has remained part of her work too, with several papers published in medical journals. Consultation days often begin with couples carrying folders full of investigation reports collected over months, sometimes longer. She reviews the records, asks plenty of questions, and explains the available options without making unrealistic promises. That careful approach is probably one reason many families continue to seek her opinion.
