Dr. Abdul Mumin (Maruf)

Dr. Abdul Mumin Maruf splits his time. CMCH in the morning. Epic Healthcare in the evening. He has a lot of degrees. MBBS. BCS. FCPS. MRCP from London. MD in gastro. Probably spent half his life reading thick books. People in Chittagong eat a lot of heavy food. Mezban beef. Kala bhuna. Then they come to him holding their stomachs. He sits in his room at Epic. The AC is usually pretty cold there. He looks at liver function tests. Just checking the SGPT numbers. He presses his fingers into their right side. Asks if it hurts. Tells them to stop eating oily street food. They probably will not listen anyway. He just writes down some gastric pills.

He does a lot of endoscopies. Pushing that long black tube down people's throats. Patients have to bite on a plastic mouth guard. They always gag a bit. He is used to it. Just watches the monitor. The screen shows the inside of the stomach. Looking for red patches. Ulcers from too much spice. Or maybe checking the liver for cirrhosis. He clicks a button to take pictures. They print out on glossy paper later. Blurry pink photos. He pulls the tube out. Tells the nurse to clean it. He writes the report on a computer. Prints it. Signs his name at the bottom. Goes to the next patient.
