Dr A H M Arifun Nahar is a skin consultant. Works at Mitford Hospital. That place is in old Dhaka. Always packed with people. Narrow roads outside. She got her MBBS. Then a DDV and an FCPS in Skin and VD. That means she deals with all kinds of skin diseases and allergies. Her chamber usually smells like medicated soap and ointment. People waiting outside are always scratching their arms or hiding rashes under their clothes. She sits at her desk. Has a bright table lamp. Sometimes uses a small magnifying glass to look at the skin. Just calls the patients in. Asks how long the itching has been going on.

Patients come in with all sorts of complaints. Acne. Hair fall. Fungal infections. Happens a lot in the summer anyway. They show her the dark patches on their neck or hands. She just looks closely under the light. Does not need to order a lot of blood tests usually. Skin stuff is mostly visual. She tells them to stop using random fairness creams from the local shop. Writes down some specific ointments. Maybe an antihistamine pill so they can sleep without scratching. Tells them to keep the area dry. Use a separate towel. Handwriting is just a quick scribble. Hands the prescription over. Then the assistant sends the next person in.
