Dr. Ahmed Lutful Mobin

Dr. Ahmed Lutful Mobin is a consultant in hepatology. MBBS and MD. Just liver stuff. His clinic room probably smells like hand sanitizer and old paper. People come in with yellow eyes. Jaundice. Or swollen bellies from bad livers. He sits behind a desk. Looking at liver function tests. The SGPT numbers are always too high. He just runs his pen down the printout. Asks them if they feel tired. They always say yes. Liver problems make you tired anyway. He tells them to stop eating heavy food. No more beef. They just look at the floor. Probably going to eat it anyway.

He tells them to lie down on the examination bed. The paper sheet crinkles. He presses his fingers under their right ribs. Checking if the liver is hard. Sometimes he taps on their stomach to check for fluid. Sounds like a dull drum. He writes down some antivirals for the hepatitis guys. Small bottles of pills. Tells them to take it every day. Do not miss a dose. It takes months. He does not promise a quick fix. Livers heal slow. Or they do not heal at all. He stamps the prescription pad. The ink is probably blue. Hands it over.
