Dr. Akhter Ahmed Shuvo
Associate Professor (Hepatobiliary & Pancreatic Surgery)
About Dr. Akhter Ahmed Shuvo
Dr. Akhter Ahmed Shuvo deals with livers and pancreases. Hepatobiliary surgery. He is an associate professor. MBBS, FCPS, MS. Probably has a FACS from America too. The liver is a messy organ. Bleeds a lot. People come to him when their gallbladder is full of stones. Or when their skin turns yellow from a blocked bile duct. He sits in his room looking at MRCP scans. Just black and white pictures of tubes inside the belly. He traces the blockage with his pen. Tells them they need surgery. No long explanations. Just the facts.
He operates at Suhrawardy Medical College. Or Labaid. Depends on the day. The OT is usually freezing. He does a lot of laparoscopic stuff. Keyhole surgery. Pumping gas into the stomach. He looks at a monitor. The screen shows pink tissue and yellow fat. He uses long metal sticks to clip the bile duct. Pulls the gallbladder out through a tiny hole. Smells a bit like burnt tissue in the room. He probably stands there for hours. Liver resections take even longer. Cutting out bad pieces of liver. He ties off the blood vessels. Sort of tedious work. The junior doctors just hold the retractors. Trying not to move. He finishes up. Puts a plastic drain tube in the side. Stitches the small cuts. Takes off his heavy gown. Washes his hands at the metal sink. Dries them.
