About Dr. ASM Redwan

Dr. ASM Redwan heads the psychiatry department at CIMCH. MBBS and MD. The psychiatry room is usually quieter than the rest of the hospital. No machines beeping. No metal trays clinking. Just a wooden desk and a couple of chairs. He probably spends most of his day just listening. People come in because they cannot sleep. Or their chest feels tight for no reason. Families bring in young guys who just stopped talking to anyone. He sits there. Nods a lot. Asks a few questions about their appetite. The ceiling fan spins. Outside, the Chittagong traffic is a loud mess. Inside, it is mostly just quiet talking.

There is no blood or bandages in his ward. Just invisible stuff. Mental health is still sort of a hidden topic around here. People do not really want to be seen waiting outside his door. They just stare at their phones. He writes prescriptions for small pills. Tells them to take half a tablet after dinner. Maybe it takes a few weeks to work. He teaches the medical students too. Explaining how brain chemicals misfire. Some patients come back looking a bit better. Some do not come back at all. He just updates the files. Puts his pen in his shirt pocket. Turns off the light.
