Dr. Hasan Md. Rizvi

Dr. Hasan Md. Rizvi heads the dental department. BDS and FCPS in orthodontics. He has that BCS health tag too. Probably spent his early years in a tin-roofed government clinic pulling rotten teeth. Now he has a better office. Associate professor. The room always smells like acrylic and clove oil. He sits at a desk looking at plaster molds of people's mouths. Just white chalky teeth sitting on his table.

Orthodontics is mostly just teenagers. Kids with crooked teeth. Their parents bring them in because they do not smile in photos. He tells them to sit in the big chair. The light shines in their eyes. He uses a small mirror on a metal stick. Poking around. He glues tiny metal brackets to the teeth. The glue tastes weird. He threads a thin wire through them. Twists it tight with small pliers. The kids usually complain that it hurts. He just tells them to eat soft rice for a few days.

Being the head means he has students watching him. They stand around the chair. He shows them how to bend the wire. It takes a lot of hand strength. Just tiny adjustments. A millimeter here or there. He tightens the rubber bands. Blue ones. Pink ones. Depends on what the kid wants. He writes down the next appointment. Usually a month later. Braces take years. Slow work. He takes off his mask. Throws the gloves in the bin. Washes his hands.
