About Dr. Md. Ferdous

Dr. Md. Ferdous is over at USTC now. Associate professor in the medicine department. MBBS and MD in internal medicine. He is ex-BCS too. That means he used to do the government hospital grind. Probably posted in some rural upazila clinic years ago. Seeing hundreds of people a day. Now he has a slightly quieter room in Chattogram. People come to him with just general sickness. Body aches. Fevers that keep coming back. He sits behind a desk. Maybe a stack of blank prescription pads next to his elbow. He just listens to them complain about joint pain. Writes down some blood tests. CBC. Dengue NS1 if it is raining outside. Sort of standard stuff.

The medicine ward at USTC gets pretty warm in the afternoon. He walks through the rows of beds. Medical students trailing behind him. He checks the patients. Pushing his thumb into their ankles to see if the swelling stays. Edema. He tells the students to look at a patient's tongue. Checking for anemia or dehydration. Just basic physical exams. No fancy machines. Just his hands and a stethoscope. He probably wears a faded ID card on a lanyard around his neck. He adjusts a dosage on a chart. Tells the nurse to stop the IV fluid. The patient can drink water now. He finishes the row of beds. Goes back to his room.
