Dr. Md. Nasimul Jamal

Dr. Md. Nasimul Jamal is an ENT consultant. MBBS, DLO, FCPS. He looks into dark holes all day. Ears. Noses. Throats. His room probably has that weird metal chair in the middle. The one that leans back. He wears a bright LED lamp strapped to his head. People come in with fish bones stuck in their tonsils. Happens a lot with the local ruhi fish. He just tells them to open wide. Sprays some bitter numbing liquid. Uses long metal forceps to pull it out. Drops it in a steel kidney tray. Clink. Kids come in with beads pushed up their noses. He just sighs. Sort of a messy job. Lots of ear wax too. He flushes it out with a big metal syringe and warm water.

He does head and neck surgeries too. Up in the OT. Taking out tonsils mostly. Or fixing broken noses from motorcycle accidents. The OT nurses hand him the suction tube. It makes a loud slurping noise. He cuts out the swollen tissue. Burns the edges so they stop bleeding. Smells a bit like burnt hair. He probably stands there for an hour. Sweating under the heavy green gown. He packs the nose with long strips of gauze. Tells the patient to breathe through their mouth. They always complain about the dry throat later. He just nods. Writes down some antibiotics. Tells them to eat cold ice cream. That is what everyone says anyway. He takes off the headlamp. Leaves it on the desk.
