Dr. Md. Saiful Hasan Shamim

Dr Md Saiful Hasan Shamim is a radiation oncologist. Works at the cancer hospital in Mohakhali. That place is always packed. People come from all over the country and just sit in the corridors with their bags. He got his MBBS from DMC. Dhaka Medical College. Then BCS Health and an MD. Probably spent half his life studying. Now he deals with cancer patients all day. They bring in these heavy files. Biopsy reports. CT films. He looks at the papers. Checks the tumor size. Figures out how many radiation sessions they need. Heavy work. But someone has to do it.

Cancer treatment takes a long time. Patients get pretty exhausted anyway. He sits in his room and explains the radiation plan. Tells them they might feel sick or lose weight. Just the facts. Relatives usually stand around the desk looking worried. Asking if the machine will hurt. He tells them it is just like a big X-ray. Does not take long. Sometimes the hospital machines break down because of the patient load. Then people have to wait. He just reschedules them. Writes down some medicine for the nausea. Signs the radiotherapy card with a pen. Hands it back. Then calls the next serial.
