Dr. S Biswas Sajal

Dr. S Biswas Sajal is an associate physician. Gastro and hepatology. MBBS and MD. He has that BCS tag too. Probably spent his early years in a dusty upazila health complex seeing two hundred patients a day. Now he deals with stomachs and livers. People come in complaining about gas. Always gas. They eat too much spicy food late at night. He just sits there listening. Maybe leaning back in a squeaky chair. He looks at the ultrasound reports. Just gray static on glossy paper. He asks where the pain is. They point all over their belly. He just nods. Writes down a proton pump inhibitor. Standard gastric pill. Take it thirty minutes before breakfast.

He does endoscopies in the procedure room. It is usually dark in there. Smells like medical spray. He sprays that bitter numbing stuff in their throat. Pushes the long black tube down. People gag a lot. Eyes watering. He is used to it. Just watches the monitor. Looking at the pink stomach lining. Searching for red spots. Ulcers mostly. He clicks a button on the handle to take a picture. Sometimes he sees liver patients. Yellow eyes. High bilirubin. He just tells them to rest. Eat plain rice. No oil. He pulls the tube out. The nurse wipes it down with a cloth. He types a few lines on the computer. Prints the report. Signs it. Goes to wash his hands.
