Dr. S. Chakraborty (Swarup)

Dr S Chakraborty is an orthopaedic consultant. Most people just call him Dr Swarup. Got his MBBS and BCS Health. Plus an MS in Orthopaedics. That means he is a government doctor who does bone surgeries. His chamber usually smells a bit like spirit and plaster. Lots of people waiting outside with crutches or arm slings. Mostly older folks with knee pain or young guys from motorcycle accidents. He sits at his desk. Usually looking at X-ray films. The big black and white ones. Holds them up to the tube light to check for hairline fractures. Sort of a noisy waiting room. People groaning a bit when they try to stand up. He just calls them in. Asks where it hurts.

He deals with a lot of arthritis and trauma. Older patients come in complaining they cannot bend their legs. Happens a lot anyway. He presses on the knee joint. Asks them to walk a few steps across the room. Checks the stiffness. If it is a broken bone from a crash, he tells them if they need a plaster cast or actual surgery with metal plates. Writes down some painkillers and calcium tablets. Maybe tells the older patients to lose some weight to help their knees. Handwriting is just a quick scrawl. Tells them to come back after a month with a new X-ray. Hands the paper over. Then the next patient limps in.
