Dr. Saiful Islam Tallukder

Dr. Saiful Islam Tallukder is an emergency medical officer. Just has his MBBS. The ER is always a mess. Smells like spirit, sweat, and floor cleaner. He probably works the night shifts a lot. Sitting at a metal desk near the entrance. The chair is usually broken. People rush in at 2 AM. Motorcycle accidents. Cut hands from factory machines. Or just someone with a bad stomach ache who panicked. He does not have time to look at old files. Just asks what happened. Shines a small torch in their eyes. Checks the pulse. His white coat probably has a few old blood stains near the pockets. He writes down the basic stuff on a thin piece of paper. Painkillers. Tetanus shot. X-ray.

He does a lot of the dirty work. Stitching up cuts on foreheads. He uses a small needle holder. The thread is usually thick black nylon. Patients always flinch when he puts the numbing shot in. He just tells them to hold still. Ties the knots fast. Three or four stitches. Snips the thread with small scissors. He puts a white gauze pad over it. Tapes it down. Tells them to come back in seven days to take the stitches out. Sometimes he has to pump stomachs. People who drank poison. Messy job. He just pushes the thick tube down. Washes it out with water. He probably drinks a lot of cheap tea from the canteen just to stay awake. He finishes the shift. Hands the register book to the next doctor. Goes home to sleep.
