Dr Shrabony Borua is a consultant. She holds an MBBS and also cleared the BCS exam. That means she is a government doctor. BCS cadre doctors usually have morning duties at a government hospital, which could be a local health complex or a bigger medical college. They deal with huge crowds there. Then she comes to her private chamber in the evening. She also has an FCPS degree. Getting an FCPS takes a lot of studying and hospital training, so it is not easy to pass. Her evening chamber starts around 5 or 6 PM. The desk assistant hands out serial numbers on little slips of paper. People just sit and wait for their number to be called.

She handles all sorts of general patients who come in with viral fevers or gastric pain. Sometimes people bring in their kids when they will not stop coughing. She asks a few questions about the symptoms and checks their throat with a small torch. She writes down the history on her pad. She does not order a bunch of tests unless something actually looks wrong. Usually it is just basic blood work if a fever lasts more than three days. She gives a prescription for standard medicines and tells them to drink oral saline if they feel weak. Most patients just want to know how many days the medicine will take to work. She tells them. Then the assistant calls the next patient in. She stays until the waiting room is empty.
