Dr. Silvia Hossain (MIthun)

Dr. Silvia Hossain is a consultant in Dhaka. Gynae and oncology. She did her MBBS at SSMC. Down in the Mitford area. Probably used to the old Dhaka crowds. She has two FCPS degrees. One in regular gynae. One in gynae oncology. That means she sees the bad cases. Women come in with heavy bleeding. Or lumps they ignored for too long. They sit in the waiting room looking nervous. Holding those blue plastic files. She just looks at the pap smear reports. Or the biopsy results. Tells them what it is. No sugarcoating. Just facts. It is cancer. Or it is not. She writes down some blood tests on her pad. The pen probably clicks a few times.

She does laparoscopic surgeries too. Keyhole stuff. Taking out a uterus or ovaries without making a huge cut. The OT is usually freezing. She looks up at a monitor on a metal stand. Pumping gas into the belly to make room. Using those long metal sticks to burn the blood vessels closed. Smells a bit like smoke in there. Cancer surgeries take a long time. She probably stands there for hours. Her back might hurt a bit. The junior doctors just hold the retractors. Trying to keep the camera steady. She finishes up. Pulls the ports out. Puts a few stitches in the small holes. Takes off her mask. Leaves the room.
