Dr. Surobhi Poddar

Dr Surobhi Poddar does general surgery. She has an MBBS and an MS. Also an assistant professor. So she probably spends half her day dealing with medical students in the wards. Then she sees her own patients. General surgery means she handles a lot of stomach issues. Gallstones. Appendix. Hernias. People usually go to a medicine doctor first. Then they get sent to her when pills stop working. They show up with a bunch of ultrasound reports. Relatives usually come along because surgery sounds scary. They want to know how long the patient has to stay in the hospital. She just tells them. No sugarcoating.

She looks at the ultrasound. The ones with the blurry black and white pictures. Checks the abdomen to see where the pain is. If they need an operation, she gives them a date. Explains the process. Sometimes patients just come back after their surgery is done. Just a follow up. She checks the stitches. Makes sure there is no infection. Tells them what they can eat. Usually just soft food for a few days. Writes down some painkillers on her pad. Maybe some vitamins. Handwriting is pretty quick. She hands the paper to the family. They go out to the reception to figure out the admission details. She just calls the next serial.
