Dr. Tajrina Rahman

Dr. Tajrina Rahman is a registrar in the pediatrics ward at CIMCH. MBBS and DCH from PG hospital in Dhaka. She is doing her FCPS final part right now. Probably studying thick medical books when she gets a quiet minute. Which is rare. The children's ward is always noisy. Babies crying because of the nebulizer masks. The machines make a loud hissing sound. Parents look exhausted. Sitting on plastic chairs next to the metal cribs. She walks around with a stethoscope in her pocket. Checking chests for pneumonia. Lots of coughs and fevers during the monsoon season in Chittagong. She just writes down the syrup doses on the files. Paracetamol. Saline drops for blocked noses. Simple stuff mostly.

Registrars do the main ward work. She puts in the tiny IV cannulas. Kids scream when they see the needle. Pretty much impossible to keep them still. The nurses have to hold their arms down. She probably just waits for them to stop moving. Tries to find a vein on a chubby hand. Takes a bit of patience. She looks down their throats with a wooden stick. They gag. She throws the stick in the bin. Tells the mother to keep feeding them breastmilk. Or just boiled water. Nothing complicated. She updates the admission notes for the morning rounds. Her handwriting is probably getting messy by the end of the shift. She puts the file back on the rack.
