Dr. Umme Tahera is an associate professor in the medicine department. Over at CIMCH. MBBS and FCPS. Medicine wards are usually pretty full. Lots of beds crammed together. She probably spends half her morning just looking at lab reports. Dengue tests. Liver functions. The paper slips are always stapled together unevenly. She sits at the nurses station to write her notes. The chair probably squeaks a bit. People come in with fevers that will not go down. Or just feeling weak. She asks them how long they have been sick. They usually say a few days. She just nods. Writes down a few tests. Maybe prescribes some paracetamol. Nothing complicated. Just trying to figure out what is wrong.

She teaches the medical students too. Walking around the ward with them. They stand at the end of the bed holding their clipboards. She shows them how to listen to a chest properly. Finding the right spot between the ribs. The stethoscope is probably cold. She tells them to listen for crackles in the lungs. Sort of sounds like rubbing hair together. The patients just lie there looking at the ceiling. She adjusts the IV drip rate on a bag of saline. Tells the registrar to change the antibiotic. Just regular ward stuff. She finishes the round. Puts her pen away. Goes to her office.
