Prof. Dr. Afroza Kutubi

Dr Afroza Kutubi is a gynaecology professor. Head of the department. Got her MBBS and FCPS. Also has a FACS from the USA and some laparoscopy training from India. That is a lot of degrees. Probably means she handles the complicated cases. Her chamber is in Dhaka. Usually packed. Pregnant women sitting on the chairs looking tired. Husbands standing around holding big plastic bags full of ultrasound reports. It gets pretty stuffy in the waiting room. She sits at her desk. Usually has a fetal doppler machine next to her. The small one they use to listen to the baby's heartbeat. She just calls the next serial.

Patients come in for regular pregnancy checkups. Or infertility issues. That takes a long time to figure out anyway. She looks at the latest ultrasound film. Checks the baby's weight and position. Sometimes she puts some cold gel on the belly and uses the doppler. You can hear the fast heartbeat through the tiny speaker. Tells the mother to drink more water. Maybe take some iron and calcium tablets. If it is a surgery case, she checks her schedule for the operation theater. Laparoscopy just means smaller cuts. She writes down the vitamins on her pad. Handwriting is a bit rushed. Hands the paper to the husband. Tells them to come back next month. Then the next patient walks in.
