Prof. Dr. Md. Musharaf Hossain is the head of the eye department. MBBS, FCPS, MS. He has been looking at retinas for a long time. His room is probably very dark. Heavy curtains pulled tight. He teaches the junior doctors too. They stand around in the dark room trying to see what he sees. He tells them to look at the optic nerve. Just a pale yellow disc at the back of the eye. Up in the OT it is very quiet. Eye surgeries do not take long. He sits on a stool with wheels. Looking through a large microscope hanging over the bed. He uses numbing drops. No big anesthesia. He makes a tiny cut. Breaks up the old cloudy lens with a machine that hums quietly. Sucks it out. Puts a folded plastic lens in. It unfolds inside the eye. He tapes a clear plastic shield over it. Takes off his mask. Washes his hands.
