Prof. Dr. Mohammed Hasan Meah is in the OPD from ten to two. Saturday to Wednesday. He graduated from Chittagong Medical College way back in 1988. Thirty five years plus. He probably knows half the senior doctors in the city. He went to Japan for a fellowship a long time ago. Okinawa. Ryukyu University. Now he is a professor at CIMCH. Sitting behind a desk with a stack of patient files. The waiting room gets pretty stuffy by noon. Patients holding onto their numbered paper slips. Mostly older men with prostate problems. He just looks at their ultrasound reports. Tells them what to do. No long speeches. Just writes down the medicine names. The desk probably has a half empty water glass. He has an MS in urology. That means he handles the complicated stuff. The junior doctors probably stand behind his chair watching him read the X-rays. He teaches them how to spot a blocked ureter. Up in the OT it is mostly cold air and machine noises. He washes his hands at the metal sink before putting on the gloves. Uses those thin scopes to look inside. The monitor screen is usually a bit dusty on the edges. He just points at the screen. Tells the assistant to hold the camera steady. Takes a while to break down a large stone. Just repetitive work. He finishes the case. Takes off the mask. Leaves the room.
