Prof. Dr. Shohrab Hossain Sourav

Older men usually fill up the waiting room outside Prof. Dr. Shohrab Hossain Souravs door. He is a professor of urology. MBBS and MS. They sit there holding those thick plastic folders with the snap buttons. Full of old ultrasound reports and urine tests. He probably sees fifty kidney stones a week. People just do not drink enough water when it gets hot. He sits at his desk. Maybe a half empty glass of water sitting near his prescription pad. He pulls out the black and white scans. Points at a tiny white dot. Tells them it is a stone. They ask if it will pass on its own. He says maybe. Depends on the size. He writes down some muscle relaxants. Tells them to drink three liters of water a day. They just nod.

He does the ward rounds with the medical students. Walking past the metal beds. They look at the plastic bags hanging off the sides. Checking the fluid color. Dark yellow means dehydration. Red means bleeding. Pretty simple stuff. He asks a student a question. They guess the answer. He just corrects them. Up in the operating room it is mostly endoscopic work. No big cuts. He just slides a long camera up there. Watching a monitor mounted on a metal arm. The picture is sometimes a bit fuzzy. He blasts the stones with a laser. Or shaves down an enlarged prostate. Sort of looks like a weird video game. He finishes the case. Pulls the scope out. Takes off his wet rubber boots. Leaves the room.
