Professor Dr. Khandaker Qamrul Islam

Prof. Dr. Khandaker Qamrul Islam is a Clinical and Interventional Cardiologist with MBBS, D-Card and MD in Cardiology. He completed his MBBS from Mymensingh Medical College in 1989, followed by D-Card from Dhaka University and MD in Cardiology in 2000. He is also a Fellow of the American College of Cardiology (FACC). His clinical career spans more than 26 years. During this time, he has performed over 15,000 coronary angiograms and more than 3,000 angioplasties. His experience also includes peripheral angiograms and hundreds of pacemaker implantations. These numbers cover a lot of cardiac procedures. His clinical work includes coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmia, hypertension and acute cardiac emergencies.

Dr. Khandaker Qamrul Islam previously served as Professor of Cardiology at the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases & Hospital (NICVD). He now works as Chief Clinical and Interventional Cardiologist at Universal Medical College & Hospital Ltd. His procedural work includes catheter based interventions and intravascular imaging such as IVUS and OCT. These imaging methods allow doctors to look more closely at the inside of coronary arteries during certain procedures. Treadmill testing is another part of his cardiac assessment work.
