Professor Dr. Maleka Afroz

Prof. Dr. Maleka Afroz sits in the ENT room from ten to one. Six days a week. She has been doing this for twenty years. BIRDEM. USTC. Now here at CIMCH. She probably has one of those round mirrors strapped to her forehead. Or maybe just a regular headlamp now. People come in complaining about ringing ears. Tinnitus. Or bad headaches. She looks down their throats with a wooden tongue depressor. Throws it in the yellow plastic bin. Checks ears with a cold metal speculum. Kids usually hate it. She just tells them to hold still. She went to the UK for some training. Birmingham. Bradford. India too. Probably has a few framed certificates on the wall behind her desk. The glass is maybe a bit dusty. Up in the OT she does the micro surgeries. Looking through a large microscope to fix tiny ear bones. Takes a lot of patience. She uses this coblation wand for tonsils. Melts the tissue instead of cutting it. Less bleeding I think. Parents like that. She handles sleep apnea cases too. People who snore too loud and stop breathing at night. She fixes the airway. Writes papers about it for medical journals. Probably types them up on an old laptop between patients. Just regular hospital routine. She finishes her list by early afternoon. Washes the iodine off her hands. Takes off the surgical mask. Leaves the hospital.
