Professor Dr. Nargis Akter

Professor Dr. Nargis Akter has been treating women's health problems for more than twenty five years. Her work covers both pregnancy care and gynecological diseases, so no two clinic days look exactly the same. One patient may come for a routine antenatal check-up. The next may need advice about infertility or persistent pelvic pain. She completed her MBBS at the University of Dhaka before earning the FCPS and MS in Gynecology and Obstetrics. She also achieved the MCPS, a Diploma in Gynecology and Obstetrics, and became a Fellow of the International College of Surgeons in the United States. Those qualifications came over many years, not all at once.

She treats women with menstrual disorders, ovarian cysts, fertility problems, and both uncomplicated and higher-risk pregnancies. Laparoscopic surgery and hysteroscopic procedures are also part of her practice when they are the right choice. Some patients arrive after visiting several doctors. Others come with only a recent ultrasound report and want a second opinion before making a decision. That happens quite often. She seems to keep the discussion straightforward, explaining what the reports show and what the next step might be. Teaching has also been part of her career, which probably explains why medical terms are often broken down into simpler language during consultations. The waiting area usually includes young couples, expectant mothers, and older women with long-term gynecological concerns. Different ages. Different questions. She listens, examines the reports carefully, writes the plan, and then moves on to the next patient. That is pretty much the rhythm of her day.
