Professor Dr. Udoy Shankar Roy

Dr. Udoy Shankar Roy runs the cardiology department. Head of the whole thing. He got his MD from NICVD. That place is always a madhouse. Hundreds of heart attacks coming through the emergency doors every week. He probably learned to read an ECG in his sleep there. Now he sits in a slightly quieter office. People bring him those thermal paper strips. The edges are always curling up. He just flattens them on his desk. Looks at the ST segments. He asks older men if they get breathless walking to the mosque. They usually say yes. He writes down a beta blocker. Just a standard dose.

Being the professor means he has to deal with the academic stuff too. Reviewing thesis papers for the junior doctors. The pages are probably full of typos. He just circles them with a red pen. He still does the ward rounds though. Walking past the cardiac monitors. The alarms are always going off. He ignores the false ones. He stops at a bed to listen to a murmur. His stethoscope is probably an expensive one. He tells the students to listen to the clicking sound. They pretend they hear it. He adjusts the diuretic dose on the chart. Tells the nurse to restrict the patient's water intake. He puts his pen away. Walks to the next bed.
