Dr. Md. Oliullah

Dr Md Oliullah is an ENT consultant. Works at Mymensingh Medical College Hospital. Got his MBBS from Rajshahi. Then an MS in ENT. That means he does surgeries too. The ENT outdoor at MMCH is always a mess. Hundreds of people lined up in the corridor. Kids crying because their ear hurts. Older guys who cannot hear well. He sits in a small room with a headlamp on. Just a bright light strapped to his forehead. Looks into ears and noses all morning. Uses those cold metal tools. The ones that look like tiny tongs. The room usually smells like spirit and medicine. Probably sees a hundred patients before lunch. Just checking throats and writing notes.

People come in with fish bones stuck in their throat. Happens a lot around here anyway. He just pulls them out with forceps. Or they have tonsil problems. He presses the tongue down with a metal stick. Tells the parents the kid needs surgery. Or maybe just gives some antibiotics if it is not too bad. Writes down some ear drops on the hospital ticket. The regular two taka ticket. Handwriting is rushed. Has to be. Too many people waiting outside. He tells them to put three drops a day. Keep water out of the ear when taking a bath. Basic stuff. Hands the ticket back. Next patient walks in.
